Spelling Lists

Our reading series is integrated with our total Language Arts series. Most weeks when we have spelling, we are in the same lesson for grammar and reading.

Here is Reading Street spelling - it has all the lists for the whole year, plus 5 bonus words each week. This resource was created by a fellow teacher.

Navigating the Weekly Spelling List

posted Jul 7, 2013, 8:28 AM by Paul Schwan   [ updated Jul 7, 2013, 8:28 AM ]

A spelling list is assigned almost every week except when we are working on a special project like a research paper. You can look up the appropriate list here. There are 6 units with 5 lists per unit for a total of 30 spelling lists for the year.

The Calendar (see link to the left) lists this week's spelling assignment by unit and list so you can easily look it up. These 5-list unit sheets can be printed out and tacked to your refrigerator. Note, they are also available in the back of the spelling workbook.

Unit 6 Spelling Lists

We have a spelling list almost every week. Most of the time we simply take the next list in our spelling book, so it's fairly easy to find out what list is coming up. However, occasionally we take them out of order. Usually, the Unit and Week of the spelling list correlates to the Unit and Week in our Grammar book.

The weekly assignment consists of the following:
  • writing the word list in the student planner in cursive (lists can be found here for Unit 6) (due Mondays)
  • completing the second and third workbook pages for that week's word list (due Wednesdays)
  • studying for the Thursday test
